4The real sound of Hendrix  Dec 25, 2009
This pedal does what it claims it does give you the sounds that made Hendrix who he was for the player who use's it now you will come close but make sure you use a clean channel with this pedal and if you have a tube amp that would be even better the tube gives you that bite that the pedal is looking for so if you want to try and sound like tha Man this pedal will take you part way there thanks and have fun Jamming.

4Unbelievably Great Hendrix Tone Generation  Jan 07, 2009
To start with, I'm a guitar geezer. I remembering hearing Hendrix's "Purple Haze" blast out of my Dad's car radio when it first came out. I grew up listening to his records and am very familiar with what his guitar tones sounds like through repeated listening over the last 40+ years. (Yikes!)

That said, the Hendrix pedal is set up to capture many (but not all)of the different guitar tones that Jimi used on a select set of seven songs. You use the pedal by selecting a song with a selector knob and then select the tone within the song with the built-in foot pedal.

The major negative to this pedal is that you can't easily move from song to song and tone to tone. The built-in footswitch is stiff/hard to press and the volume differences between tones are sometimes to great for smooth switching. You can buy an external footswitch that makes switching easier. However, the switching limitation has to be accepted if you want to be satisfied with your purchase.

Given that, this pedal works best if you stay in one tone per song rather than switch around within a song. For me, therefore, it's easiest to think of the Hendrix pedal as around 16+ individual pedals, each capturing a specific, tone.

Now you might think that's a disaster. However, THE TONES ARE JUST AMAZING RECREATIONS OF THE TONES AS YOU WOULD HEAR THEM ON HENDRIX TUNES.

Two examples of what this means (and by implication, why this can be really useful):

1. Let's say you want to do a song with an extended jam and sound exactly like Hendrix did on Band of Gypsies, "Machine Gun" (one of the tones supported by the pedal.) YOU CAN DO IT!!! The sound is just great and you can play at bedroom or small club volumes and not rupture your and your audiences ear drums.

2. Let's say you want to sound like Nile Rodger's on assorted Chic tunes like "Freak Out." You can use the Hendrix pedal "Wind Cries Mary" tones to get that overdriven Strat tone. Freak out indeed!

In both cases, these applications work best if you have a guitar with single coil pickups....i.e. Strats, Telecasters, etc.

If you have a guitar with humbuckers, you can easily get late sixties style Marshall w/ Fuzz distortion. I've gotten close to a number of Jimmy Page/Led Zep 1 tones with the Purple Haze and Foxy Lady settings of the pedal. Some knob tweaking is required, but not very difficult.

In sum, if for any reason -- practice, performance, tone education -- you'd like a collection of 16+ individual, spot-on Hendrix/iconic, late 60's hard rock tones, this is a great buy.

5Play guitar with the spirit of the legend  Jun 01, 2005
buying this unique effects pedal gives you the opportunity to experience the sounds that Jimi Hendrix once created. For people playing guitar of an advanced level and might be inspired by the guitar legend jimi hendrix, this is surely something to think about trying.
